If you haven’t suffered from acne in your life, consider yourself one of the lucky ones. On the other hand, if you are one of the majorities of people (like I was during puberty) that battle acne on a daily basis, stay with me. Acne and purple pimples are one of those things that can ruin a perfect night.

Consider this: you are preparing yourself to go out on a date, you’ve got your sexy dress (or a suit), you put some perfume on you, and in the moment you look in the mirror you see large acne that you cannot cover with make-up.

Happened to me several times. Now, in that moment, there is not much you can do. However, if you notice the acne early, there are many home remedies for acne that you can try and that work. And best of all, they are all extremely cheap. For most of them, you have the ingredients already in your kitchen.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is one of the best essential oils in the market, and you should always have it at home. It is extremely helpful for several skin conditions, acne included. Thanks to the antibacterial properties, tea tree oil can easily and quickly solve your acne trouble. For the home remedy, you need one cotton ball dipped in tea tree oil. Just dab it on your acne, and rinse with warm water after 20 minutes.

A word of notice: if you have sensitive skin, stay away from tea tree oil.

Cinnamon and Honey Mask

I love these homemade facial masks. Not only do they help you get rid of acne, but they also improve the overall health of your face.

For this one, you need:

-2 tablespoons of honey
-half a teaspoon of cinnamon
-1 teaspoon of coconut oil.

Mix the ingredients until you get a smooth paste, and then apply on your face. Let it stay for 10 minutes, and then gently remove the mask with a damp cloth. You can apply this mask once a week even though you have no acne.

Yogurt and Honey Mask

Instead of telling you to use raw honey and babble about its potential and health benefits, I am giving you another facial mask. This time, you need only one tablespoon of raw honey and a little bit of yogurt (you can use milk as well). Apply the mask on your face, and after 10 minutes, wipe it off with a damp cloth.

Honey and Strawberries

Rounding up the honey home remedies for acne is this honey and strawberries mask. What seems like a weird mix, it is actually a handy asset for battling acne. Thanks to the richness in salicylic acid, strawberries are extremely effective in this treatment. If you didn’t know, salicylic acid is one of the main ingredients in many cosmetic acne treatments, and you can get it from its source. Mash three strawberries and mix them with two teaspoons of honey, and then apply to your face. After 20 minutes, rinse your face with warm water.

Lemon

Thanks to its richness with vitamin C, lemon makes a great asset in the fight with acne. The juice from the lemon helps your acne dry up faster, and you will have a clean and smooth face after a day or two. Dip a cotton swab into a fresh lemon juice and then apply to the affected area before you go to bed. You will feel the first results in the morning when you wake up.

Orange

Another citrus fruit on the list, but, this time, you do not need the juice from the orange. Instead, you will use the peels from oranges. All you need is two orange peels and some fresh water. To start off, rinse your face with fresh water. Now, put the orange peels in a blender with some water to get a paste. You can grind or pound up the orange peels with water in any other way you wish. Apply the mask to the acne, and after 20 minutes, rinse with water. Ideally, the orange peel mask should be firm, but even if it isn’t, do not stress.

Toothpaste

That thing you use every time you brush your teeth can also be used for treating your acne. One thing to note, use only white toothpaste and stay away from gel toothpaste. Apply the paste on your acne before you go to bed. Once you wake up in the morning, wash your face and enjoy it. If you are trying out the mask during the day, make sure it stays on your acne for at least 30 minutes.

Baking Soda

I said most of the masks here are cheap, effective and you can find ingredients in your kitchen. Well, is there anything cheaper than baking soda? This home do it all ingredient can help you with acne as well. All you need is one teaspoon of baking soda and some water (you can use lemon juice instead of water for even better results). Apply the paste from the baking soda on your affected area, and let it try for five minutes. Remember, never leave baking soda for long periods on your skin, as it will cause irritation. After five minutes, wash your face with warm water.

Banana Peel

We always throw away the banana. But if you are having troubles with acne, the next time you eat a banana, keep the peel. Now, there are countless reasons why you should eat one banana per day, meaning you always have a source for banana peels. For this treatment, rub the peel in a circular motion over your face. After you’ve covered all your face, let it soak for at least 30 minutes and then rinse it off. It is not cool to waste, so save your banana peels!

Garlic

I know that the thought of putting garlic on your face might seem disgusting. But trust me when I say this, you will get rid of acne in just a day or two. All you need for this home remedy for acne is one fresh garlic clove. Cut it into two pieces, and rub it on your acne. After five minutes, rinse your face with lukewarm water.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Last, but not least on our list of home remedies for acne is apple cider vinegar, another magical ingredient you have in your kitchen. For the facial mask, you need a ratio of 1:3 apple cider vinegar and water. Dip a cotton ball into the mixture, and then apply to your acne. After 10 minutes, wash your face. You can use the treatment several times per day.
