Gray hair ages people. It’s just one of those things. Grey hair can be attractive and stylish but it definitely ages people. Young adults in particular, between twenty and thirty, are often worried of premature graying hair.
Why does hair go gray prematurely?
-It can be genetic and it can be illness
-Stress causes gray hair
-Unbalanced hormones, poor diet, sinusitus, chronic colds and thyroid disorders all contribute to premature gray hairs
-Lack of vitamin B, C, iron, iodine and copper
What can you do for gray hair?
There are tons of commercial hair dyes on the market but nobody wants to use chemical laden products on their hair. Keep your diet healthy and include all the minerals and vitamins needed for healthy living.
Here are some natural home remedies for early graying of hair:
-Combine curry leaves and coconut oil and see what happens. It works as a tonic and increases your hair’s pigmentation
-Boil a handful of fresh curry leaves in a pan with coconut oil
-Leave to char
-When cool, massage the strained oil into your hair and leave on for 30-45 minutes
-Wash your hair afterwards
-Repeat once or twice a week
Henna works in a similar way to the curry leaves. It conditions and strengthens your hair as well as making it darker. You can boil the leaves with coconut oil, char and apply. Or:
-Take a handful of henna leaves and grind them
-Add a tablespoon of coffee power
-Three tablespoons of Indian gooseberry power
-Add a little plain yoghurt and mix everything together into a paste
-Spread the mixture into your hair, massage it in and leave to dry
-Wash your hair afterwards. Look at the beautiful dark colour
-Repeat every two to three weeks
Amla, or Indian gooseberry
Indian gooseberry is excellent for premature graying, dull hair and also for hair loss.hair. These fruits contain tons of antioxidants, Vtiamin C and anti-ageing properties.
Boil up the gooseberries, or an Amla powder, with coconut oil, until charred. When cool, apply to your scalp and leave it on overnight. If you don’t have much time, leave it on for at least an hour. Wash your hair afterwards and repeat twice a week if possible.
Amla and lemon juice are also a good mixture, and Amla and almond oil work wonders. You can add some lime juice too which will not only reduce the gray but also strengthen healthy hair.
Sage and rosemary
Add half a cup of sage (dried) and half a cup of rosemary (dried) to some water and leave to boil for a few hours. Strain the mixture and apply to your hair after a shampoo. Leave it on for 20 minutes and then wash it out. Repeat once a week. Watch your hair go darker.
Lemon juice and coconut oil
Coconut oil is not called a miracle oil for nothing. It moisturizes your hair, adds a shine, fights infections, stimulates hair growth and can even reverse your gray. It can also get rid of dandruff and stop hair loss.
Mix 3 tablespoons of lemon juice with enough coconut oil to cover your hair. Massage the mixture into your hair and scamp and leave it on for at least an hour, but overnight if you want to. Wash and repeat weekly.
Tea, good tea, can soften your hair, add lustre to it and darken it.
Boil 2 tablespoons of loose tea in one cup of water, add a teaspoon of salt and let it cool. Strain and used the strained tea to wash your hair. Add the mixture to your hair and leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse with cold water, no shampoo. Repeat once or twice a week.
And note, ground coffee can also darken your hair, mixed in your regular hair conditioner.
This molasses is filled with copper and so will darken and strengthen hair. It helps with pigment production by stimulating them. Blackstrap molasses also has iron, magnesium and selenium, brilliant for strength and overall health.
One tablespoon every morning over a couple of months will do the trick.
There are so many uses for the humble onion. Onion juice is excellent for thin gray hair, to thicken it and to darken it. Onion juice supports catalese production, which decreases in your hair follicles as you age.
Massage your scalp daily with onion juice and leave it on your hair for up to an hour. Wash or rinse afterwards.
Black Sesame Seeds
These seeds contain iron, protein, copper, phosphorus and magnesium. They have been used for centuries in Chinese medicine. They are effective in halting premature graying. They also support melanocyte activity which is needed to produce melanin, the hair pigmentation.
Eat one teaspoon full of these seeds daily for three months.
You can also massage sesame oil into your hair for moisture and strength.
Amaranth is a plant with small green, red or purple flowers. The flower and leaves, used correctly, can stop the graying of your hair and bring back the natural colour.
Wet your hair and apply the juice extracted from the leaves of the amaranth on your scalp and hair. Rinse and repeat every few days or as necessary.
